I wanted to catch a small window of time: when a kid is still a kid, but the eyes have already grown up. I stripped the setting and used flat color so the face and the gaze take the lead. The bold palette isn’t a stunt; it matches how feelings are at that age—sudden, bright, and slow to fade. The girl’s green shifts from a bow to a boundary of her own. The boy’s spark moves from impulse to a light he can steer. Each portrait is a marker on the road, noting the moments they learn to say yes or no. When you look at this series, I hope you think of your own in-between years, or of someone near you who’s growing into themselves right now.
