I stuck scraps of colored paper to the hotel’s floor-to-ceiling window and, borrowing the fierce light of the setting sun, quickly cut out all sorts of shapes from the park below and slipped them into my suitcase. After the trip, back home, no matter how I tried to piece them together, they never looked like what I’d seen that day.
